Spider-Man (2002)

Spider-Man is the first movie in the Spider-Man movie franchise by Marvel and Columbia Pictures/Sony.  Spider-Man is the first of the three Spider-Man movies all directed by Sam Raimi in the original Spider-Man trilogy. Spider-Man is the story and journey of a young teenage high school student Peter Parker turned superhero Spider-Man (played by Tobey Maguire) and finding his one true love,  Mary Jane Watson (played by Kirsten Dunst), a beautiful girl who lived next door to Peter. Peter is also a junior photographer at the Daily Bugle under the supervision of J. Jonah Jameson (played by J.K. Simmons). Eventually, during the science class tour of the laboratory with many species of spiders, Peter’s life would change forever. A genetically advanced super spider with red and blue colored skin had bitten Peter on the hand at the spot where Spidey shoots his web out from his hand. After that event, Peter has the amazing superpowers of a spider. He can run faster, jump higher, shoots web at will, and more. Before Peter’s Uncle Ben was killed by a carjacker in the movie, Uncle Ben said to Peter to never forget the phrase, “With great power, comes great responsibility”.  That has been Peter’s motivation to do good and great things ever since after Uncle Ben’s death. Peter still has Aunt May (Rosemary Harris) to look after him and to comfort him all the way through.

Also, Peter has a close friend Harry Osborn (played by James Franco) who is the son of Oscorp funding, Norman Osborn (played by Willem Dafoe) who later goes insane and becomes a great villain to Spider-Man called the Green Goblin. Norman gained his superpowers from the test that he goes through and is powerful, strong and aggressive than ever as the Green Goblin. Later in the movie, the Green Goblin confronts Spider-Man many times and has their brutal fights yet. Furthermore, the Green Goblin kidnapped Mary Jane and put her on the Brooklyn Bridge and have Spider-Man come and rescue her and then the two have their battle, one on one hand combat which the Goblin beaten Spider-Man up until Spider-Man discovered his strength and willpower to save the woman that he loved, managed to fight back and defeat the Goblin by killing him with the Goblin’s own glider’s blades. The Green Goblin/Norman Osbrn is dead. Later Harry mourned his father’s death and vowed that if he finds Spider-Man, he will surely kill him himself but not Peter Parker who is Harry’s best friend. But Harry does not know at first that Spider-Man is actually Peter himself in the Spider-Man suit until Harry unmasked Spider-Man at last in Spider-Man 2.

Captain America: The First Avenger (2001)

Captain America: The First Avenger is the third film by Marvel Studios after Thor. The film is about the evolution of a wartime hero Steve Rogers (played by Chris Evans) who at first was unfit and later rejected to join the United States army during World War II until he was admitted by Dr. Abraham Erskine (played by Stanley Tucci) who worked on the Super Soldier Project with Howard Stark (played by Dominic Cooper) at the time.

Captain America: The First Avenger is about a man’s journey from being a skinny Steve Rogers to become a national hero, a national and inspirational war hero known as Captain America and battling evil forces under the command of the villainous Nazi general Johann Schmidt (played by Hugo Weaving) or better known as the Red Skull from world annihilation and chaos.

Steve Rogers was injected the “Super Soldier” serum which makes him stronger, muscular and run faster and jump higher than any regular human can. Steve was recruited by the army in the modern world during World War II to stop the evil forces of Hydra under Red Skull and save mankind from total destruction by Red Skull’s evil world domination scheme at all cost.

Captain America movie has a lot of World War II history background and a great fictional story of Steve Rogers who later became Captain America. Also the movie has a lot of action scenes, great fight sequences, ramped up explosive action scenes, and a good emotional love story between Steve Rogers and his love interest and tough woman, Peggy Carter (played by Hayley Atwell). Peggy Carter is recruited by Captain Chester Phillips (played by Tommy Lee Jones) to monitor the enemy’s movements, especially on Johann Schmidt’s Hydra forces that the threatened world peace and humanity as a whole. Red Skull has a rather reddish skull=like face with slits for nostrils. His face is similar to that of a human skull. He is feared by his own loyal Hydra soldiers and anyone who come across him have to be intimidated by the appearance of the Red Skull.

The movie has a lot of great cast of characters, including a recruited soldier and best friend of Steve Rogers, James “Bucky” Barnes (played by Sebastian Stan] before Steve was officially recruited by the U.S. Army.  Furthermore, the movie has a nice tuned music score and a good storyline between the rise of Adolf Hitler and his Nazi forces under the command of Hitler’s deadly right hand man, Schmidt aka Red Skull and his handful of loyal Hydra troops. Also, the Red Skull has a secret weapon that would eventually conquered the world and bring his enemies to their knees, that is the Cosmic Cube or better known in the Marvel Universe as the Tesseract. The Tesseract has the power to decimate an entire army to bits in seconds at will. The Tesseract is so powerful and deadly that the energy radiated from must be fully administered and controlled.  The Tesseract is seen again and was used by Loki to bring his alien race Chitalri army to Earth in 2012’s Marvel ‘s The Avengers movie.

Captain America: The First Avengers stars an assemble cast including Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America, Hugo Weaving as Johann Schmidt/Red Skull, Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Stanley Tucci as Dr. Erskine, Dominic Cooper as Howard Stark, Tommy Lee Jones as Captain Chester Phillips and more. The movie is written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. The movie is directed by Joe Johnston (Jurassic Park, the Wolfman). The movie is produced and distributed by Marvel Studios and Paramount Pictures.

Superman Returns (2006)

“Look! It’s a bird, it’s a plane…. its Superman!”. Superman Returns marks the eventual return of the Man of Steel for a decade. The Man of Steel is back! Superman Returns is the latest Superman movie after the previous four Superman films that starred American actor Christopher Reeve as Clark Kent/Superman in the original. The original films are created by Richard Donner from the Superman comic books and TV shows.
Kal-El or Superman, as we often know him well, is a legendary hero who comes from the planet Krypton, the birthplace of his home world.  Superman is the last son of Krypton raised by his adopted parents Jonathan “Pa” Kent and Martha Kent on Earth. Superman’s real father is Jor-El who has deceased long ago after Superman was born and later transported to Earth by a Krytonian transport,
Superman Returns is the latest Superman movie that came out in theaters in the United States back in June 2006. Superman Returns is about when Superman (played by Brandon Routh) disappeared and there is not even news of him until now. The world moves on, including the beautiful newspaper journalist and Superman long love interest Lois Lane (played by Kate Bosworth)  who worked at the Daily Planet Metropolis and her husband and pilot Richard White, son of The Daily Planet’s Perry White.
Also, this time Superman faces a arch-enemy and cocky villain mastermind Lex Luthor (played by Kevin Spacey) who wants to destroy the Man of Steel by using his ultimate secret weapon, the legendary green crystal rock called Kryptonite which is dangerous to Superman and weaken his superhuman powers and abilities at will.
Superman Returns is a must-see Superman movie, with a lot of breathtaking flying, emotional scenes, spectacular and epic action sequences, humor, drama, romance and anything else you get for a Superman movie. Superman Returns has all of those elements in one. This is a Superman movie that you don’t want to miss. The movie has all the high-flying action, chronograph fight scenes, explosive action scenes, romantic scenes, jaw-dropping visuals and more.

The powers of Superman are unlimited. He has the ability to fire rays of laser beams from his eyes, see-through vision, superhuman strength, agility, flying and impervious to bullets, heat and so on.
Furthermore, I think Superman Returns is about redemption and sacrifice for someone Superman came into contact with personally.

Superman Returns starred unknown American actor Brandon Routh as Kal-El/Clark Kent/Superman, Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane, James Marsden as Richard White, Kevin Spacey as wig-in-disguise villain mastermind Lex Luthor, Sam Huntington as Jimmy Olsen, Tristan Lake Leabu as Jason, Frank Langella as Daily Planet editor Perry White, Eva Marie Saint as Martha Kent and Marlon Brando as Jor-El, Superman’s Kryptonian father. Superman Returns is directed by Bryan Singer who directed the first two X-Men films-X-Men (2000) and X2: X-Men United (2003). Singer also directed the Usual Suspects and 2008 movie Valkyrie. The story is written by Superman creator Richard Donner.

There will be another Superman movie titled Man of Steel coming out in theaters next year on June 14, 2013 this time directed by Zack Snyder (Watchmen, 300, Sucker Punch, Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga-Hoole). Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel will be darker, grittier and maybe epic than Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns.

Man of Steel will be produced by Christopher Nolan (who directed Memento, The Dark Knight and the upcoming third and final Batman film The Dark Knight Rises which hits theaters on July 20th, 2012), Jonathan Nolan, Charles Roven and Emma Thomas. The screenplay is written by Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer.
Man of Steel stars Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Michael Shannon as General Zod, Kevin Costner as Jonathan “Pa” Kent, Diane Lane as Martha “Ma” Kent, Russell Crowe as Jor-El, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Harry Lennix as General Swanwick, Antje Traue as Faora and Christopher Meloni as General Hardy.

The Incredible Hulk (2008)

The Incredible Hulk is the second Marvel superhero movie after the initial success of 2008’s Iron Man movie produced and distributed by Marvel Studios.  The Incredible Hulk is about a scientist turned fugitive man Bruce Banner (Edward Norton) who tested the gamma radiation on himself but the experiment turned out very wrong and Banner eventually transformed into a giant green goliath, The Hulk. Bruce Banner is now on the run from the U.S. government and the army under the command of General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross (William Hurt) is determined to hunt and track Banner down by any means necessary and to use something out of Banner as a weapon for the army. Also Banner still has a connection with his long love interest with Dr. Elizabeth “Betty” Ross (Liv Tyler), the daughter of General Ross. She is a chemist and expertise in physics.

Also, Banner came into contact with a powerful enemy and deadly nemesis, Emil Blonsky, a soldier recruited by General Ross to fight Banner/Hulk and track him down. Later in the movie, Blonsky used Banner’s blood sample and is transformed into a hideous and powerful foe of the Hulk, the Abomination, who has similar super strength and agility as the Hulk.

The Abomination has sharp spikes down his spine and muscular body structure. Later the Abomination and the Hulk face off and have their epic colossal battle showdown in the streets of Harlem in New York City.

Also in the movie Banner is trying to find a permanent cure for his symptoms of his gradual transformation into the Hulk and with the help of his secret contact codenamed Mr. Blue aka Dr. Samuel Sterns (Tim Blake Nelson) Banner managed to solve his gamma radiation effect to another level.
Furthermore, Banner is trying to figure out how to stop or even get rid of the remaining cure that he has inside his body permanently until at last he succeeded. Also Banner does not to control the the Hulk inside him but to get rid of it instead.
Also, the movie has a lot of explosive action scenes as well as some humor and emotional elements. The music is well played throughout the course of the movie. The cast are great in their respective roles. The visual effects are good but it could be a lot better and more improved. The climatic Hulk and Abomination battle is stunning and jaw-dropping visually.  Also the colossal fight scene between the two behemoths, the Hulk and Abomination is a very powerful scene to behold for any Hulk fan to watch this epic final showdown in the movie.

The Incredible Hulk is directed by Louis Leterrier. The movie has a great cast including Edward Norton as Bruce Banner/The Hulk, Liv Tyler as Betty Ross, William Hurt as General Ross, Tim Blake Nelson as Samuel Sterns and Tim Roth as Emil Blonsky/the Abomination.
